November is mouth cancer awareness month and many coalition members are trying to raise public awareness of this awful disease. There are two key issues: Â the annual number of cases is rising and many patients only present for diagnosis and treatment when the disease is advanced and difficult to cure.
One of the most common ways mouth cancer is identified is at a dental check-up. There is a shortage of dentists providing NHS services and getting an appointment can be very difficult. The Oral Health Foundation has developed many resources to help including guidance on how people can check for signs of mouth cancer for themselves.
This year the Mouth Cancer Foundation (MCF) is working to raise awareness in the Care Home sector.
